I have a feeling that the router is configured to drop the tunnel if there's not any network traffic across it after so many minutes, and then re-establishing the tunnel when traffic needs to go out across it. Everything is working good, but occasionally the VPN tunnel will drop and come back up at a later time (sometimes in a few minutes or a few hours). A customer of ours has a Cisco 1841 router that is connected to another network via a IPSec VPN tunnel.
